Realistic Self-Care Tips for the Busy Mom

Updated: May 29, 2024

Busy mom taking a break and enjoying a moment of self-care.

Whether you're a superhero working mom or a stay-at-home warrior, creating moments of self-care can be challenging for the woman who "does it all." Trust us, we get it. As moms to a crew of little ones ourselves, finding time to prioritize ourselves is rare.

And though we love a good spa day, it's hard to even find the time to pencil that into a calendar that is full to the brim.

We wanted to pull together a list of realistic self-care tips for busy moms that can easily be implemented throughout the day without spending a chunk of change (or time... because, really, who has the time?). So let's recharge those batteries and spend some much-deserved time on yourself.

Take a Walk Reset and recharge with a simple 15-minute walk. Boost blood flow, balance sugar levels, and elevate those fantastic, “feel-good” hormones. Put on your favorite playlist, or podcast in my case, and soak up a moment of peace to yourself.

Eat First

Shift the routine–eat before the kids. A warm meal is a game-changer. Trust us, the kiddos will be just fine and well-fed.

Listen to an Audiobook

There is no better way to unwind than reading a book by your favorite author, but really, where is the time? Buy that book you've had your eye on in audio format and listen to it while you take your walk, clean, or before bed.

Meditate

Quiet your racing mind with apps like Insight Timer or Calm. Even 10 minutes of centering yourself is a worthy investment. Mama, you deserve it.

Go for a Walk or Drive with Your Best Gal

Connect with your bestie–schedule a walk or a drive. Share the highs and lows and remind yourself that you are still you.

Forgive Yourself

Release the mom guilt. Don’t obsess over a messy room or piled laundry. Give yourself grace. You’re human, and you’re doing a great job. Have some rooms you need tidying up? We can help! Check out our organization services focused on bringing harmony back into your spaces.

Cook What YOU Want Ever feel like you're a cook-to-order chef? Sometimes, it's easy to get caught up in planning meals based on what everyone else wants and forget that what we like and want is just as important.

Make a meal you like, and while you're at it, think of all the reasons why you deserve it. If the kids are picky, they can have something simple— they will be fine.

Sing in the Car … LOUD AND PROUD Time to dust off that "getting ready" playlist from college. Whether you're backing things up to Juvenile or "getting into formation" with Beyoncé, find your go-to jams and sing them loud the next time you go on that Target run. It's an instant mood lifter.

Take Yourself Out to Dinner … Alone

There is something incredibly magical about sitting with yourself, in quiet, and enjoying your own company. Take yourself out on a date and enjoy a meal without interruption, conversation, or expectations. Sounds nice, huh?

Create a “Ta-Da” List

Celebrate your wins with a “ta-da” list. Acknowledge the tasks and projects you accomplished without overthinking it. You’re rocking it – cheers to your victories!

Remember, taking a moment for yourself isn't a luxury; it's a necessity. So, go ahead, implement these simple tips, and keep being the amazing mom you are. Here's to a more balanced and fulfilling journey ahead!
